南極で進められている発掘調査で、複数の恐竜の化石が見つかったそうです。

恐竜が南極にもいたことはこれまでも知られていたのですが、今回の発掘調査で、複数種を見つけた、とのこと。当時の南極は、今のように氷に閉ざされてこそいませんでしたが、南極圏にはあり、植物はそれほど豊富ではなかったものと考えられます。 南極の長い夜に適応して眼が大きくなったと考えられる恐竜も見つかっており、恐竜たちが南極にどのように適応したか、今後の研究が待たれるところです。上記の発表では、「冬眠」の可能性さえ指摘されていますよ。どうなるのでしょうか。あれだけ大きな恐竜が冬眠したとは、普通は考えられませんが、仮説としては排除できません。研究の進展が楽しみです。 この発掘調査の写真が下記にも紹介されています。
