East of the Seaway was the subcontinent of Appalachia; to the west its sister subcontinent, Laramidia. Comparing the dinosaurs from each side of the Seaway, says Parris, “can give us an overall perspective of the development of the North American fauna evolution and extinction.”
“Dozens of other species are known from this formation — reptiles, amphibians, birds, numerous invertebrates, and even plants,” says Schein. Together these animals and vegetation provide scientists with “a complete picture of this habitat that is not often matched anywhere else in the world.”
